Background of the working areas:
Tehsil Behrain Swat was recently hit by a devastating flood that has caused widespread destruction and displacement. The flood has left over 1400 houses destroyed and thousands of families homeless, struggling to rebuild their lives and communities. The impact of the flood on the people of Tehsil Behrain Swat has been severe, with many families losing everything they own. The floodwaters have also destroyed crops and agricultural land, leaving many farmers without a source of income. The disruption to education has been significant, with many schools damaged and unusable. The people of Tehsil Behrain Swat are facing a long and difficult road to recovery, with whole villages washed away and infrastructure partially or fully destroyed. Eleven bridges, including Qandil Bridge, Damana Bridge, and Madyan Sor Pul Bridge, have been washed away, leaving the area disconnected from the main set up of the district. Seven villages have also been completely or partially washed out, and hundreds of houses, roads, bridges, and other vital communication systems have been destroyed. Health and hygiene issues are also causing further problems for the affected population. The upper part of the district has been hit particularly hard, and immediate attention is needed from the global community to avoid any further complications. The provincial government’s resources have already been drained by security and law and order, and there is currently no adequate support forthcoming to help those in distress. Rebuilding efforts will require years of government and community efforts to restore what is repairable. The Affectees urgently require basic necessities such as food items, wheat flour, cooking oil, sugar, and rice, in addition to rehabilitation of their houses, basic infrastructure, and lands.
